From the Airport

Malta only has one airport (Malta International Airport), which is located just 8km away (20-minute drive) from Valletta.

The cheapest transfer to Valletta is by bus, with route X1 being in service from early morning until late evening, and tickets cost a few euros. Alternatively, you can get a taxi (1-4 pax) for around €20 and a shared shuttle bus for around €14 for 2 adults (both one-way fares).

Transport

Ferries

Adults pay €1.50 for a single day ticket, and €2.80 for a return ticket. Instead of paying for a ticket daily, one can also buy a 7-day ticket for €10.00 that may be used for seen consecutive days, and have unrestricted use. The ferries depart every 30 minutes from terminals. During the summer months, the ferries commence at 6.45am until 11.45pm. For the night service there are different rates.

You can enter Valletta by boat on three types of ferries:

  • Valletta Ferries offer two routes, leaving at the seafront of Sliema (across Marsamxett Harbour) as well as from Senglea/Bormla (part of The Three Cities, across Grand Harbour) to take you across each of the harbours for a small fee. Trips are just 10 minutes.

  • iSeeMalta Harbour ferry is a hop-on-hop-off type of ferry that takes you on a tour through both of Valletta’s harbours. You can get on/of at Valletta Waterfront, Esplora Interactive Science Centre at Kalkara (fun outing for kids!) and Sliema Ferries, from where you can hop on to other boat tours (taking you to other parts of Malta and Gozo).

  • One of the Gozo fast ferry services can get you straight to Valletta from Gozo, in under 45 minutes, should you wish to visit our sister island.

Another option is to travel to Birgu (also known as Vittoriosa, one of The Three Cities), and take a short trip on a Maltese type of gondola (or Dgħajsa in Maltese).

A & S Water Taxis run a shuttle service that takes you across Grand Harbour and drops you off at Victoria Gate, through which you can enter Valletta. You can find them at the start of the Birgu waterfront (Three Cities)

Buses

Most bus routes operate to and from Valletta, being the main hub and terminus of public transport in Malta. Bus routes normally operate in both directions, with stops on opposite sides of streets. Bus fares are between €1.50 and €2 for a single trip (winter/summer rates) and multi-day tickets are available if you’re also looking to do some exploring outside of Valletta.

Getting to the Venue

The venue, Spazju Kreattiv, is a short walk from the bus terminus, where buses drop you off. Below is a map of how to get from the terminus to the venue.

Alternatively if you are arriving in Valletta by the Sliema Ferry, kindly find the map from the ferry to the venue. Instead of walking one may opt to take the bus that travels around Valletta. This bus is the 133.

If you are travelling from the Three Cities, by ferry, one may find the map below, from the ferry to the venue.  One may get the lift that goes from the Waterfront all the way to the Upper Barrakka Garden, which is a three-minute walk to the venue. Apart from this, one may also get the 133 or the X133 bus that will drop you off at the Valletta Bus Terminal.

Accommodation

Accommodation in Valletta would be best, with Castille Hotel and Osborne Hotel being the closest options. Valletta offers many different solutions for a stay, ranging from 5-star hotels, to boutique hotels, to slightly cheaper hotels, to hostels and AirBnBs. Valletta is small and September is a popular month, so it is recommended to sort out accommodation as soon as possible. Should the Valletta options prove out of budget, do consider looking for accommodation in Floriana, which is attached to Valletta, or even Sliema and Vittoriosa. The latter two are across the water on either side of Valletta, but both have good bus connections and also water ferries, which can be very convenient.
